'The Last Word,' 'Lara Croft GO' winners at Game Connection awards

Paper-sliding story "The Last Word" and board game homage "Lara Croft GO" came away from the Game Connection Development Awards with multiple wins.

"The Last Word," in which players slide words and phrases around a diary's pages, creating a world for its heroine to explore, was declared winner of with three awards, being named Best Indie Game, Best Story / Storytelling, and Most Creative & Original Project.

It's expected to launch on the Steam platform, which serves Windows PC, Mac and Linux, later this year.

Already in the wild is "Lara Croft GO" which distills the action franchise down into a turn-based mobile-friendly adventure; at the March 14 Game Connection event in San Francisco it was awarded in the categories of Best Mobile / Tablets and Best Casual Game.

The ceremony's other award winners were vehicular warfare game "Crossout," virtual reality series "Sequenced - Episode 1," sci-fi explorer "Planetoid Pioneers," adventure game "Project Amy," pixel art world builder "The Sandbox 2," and reality-based Monopoly spin-off "Landlord Real Estate Tycoon."

The Game Connection Development Awards took place during the week of the Games Developer Conference, San Francisco.
