Samsung unveiled its latest flagship smartphone -- the Galaxy Note 7 -- at its Unpacked 2016 event. The smartphone was launched with other devices but the Galaxy Note 7 was clearly the most intriguing.

1. Layers of protection

The smartphone is the first to feature Gorilla Glass 5 protection which can survive a 5.2-foot (1.6-meter) drop. The glass is also “4X better in drop failure height than competitive glasses,” said Corning on its official website. The device is also IP68 water and dust resistant which means that the device can be submerged in 5-feet of water for up to 30 minutes. 

2. Iris scanner 

This is the first smartphone from Samsung to integrate Iris scanner technology which can be used to unlock the smartphone, or even a lock a specific folder.

3. The S Pen

The S Pen come with the same IP68 certification as the Galaxy Note 7 can be used under water. Samsung also claims that users can even write while standing in a storm. The S Pen is 108-mm long and has a 0.7-mm tip, which is smaller and more accurate than its predecessor on the Galaxy Note 5 by 2.6mm and 0.9mm, respectively. The S Pen also comes with unique commands which let you do things like magnifying the screen and record a GIFs from videos.

4. Galaxy Note 7 has similar specifications to the Galaxy S7

Like the Galaxy S7, Samsung is pushing two different processors in the Galaxy Note 7.  A US version will feature a Snapdragon 820 process while the rest of the world will get the Exynos chipset. Other key features include a 5.7-inch quad HD (2560x1440) curved AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, 64GB of inbuilt storage (expandable up to 256GB), 12MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and a 3500mAh battery with support for wireless fast charging.

5. Dual Pixel Camera

The Galaxy Note 7 features a ‘Dual Pixel’ 12MP rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilisation,) f/1.7 aperture and dual-LED flash. There is also a 5MP front camera which sports the same f/1.7 aperture. The dual-pixel technology enables the smartphone to quickly focus, so that users can take better and quicker photographs.
