Suven gets two patents for molecules targeting central nervous system disorders

Drug firm Suven Life Sciences has been granted two product patents, one each in India and Japan, for molecules to be developed for the treatment of neuro-degenerative diseases.

Drug firm Suven Life Sciences has been granted two product patents, one each in India and Japan, for molecules to be developed for the treatment of neuro-degenerative diseases.

The company has been granted "one product patent from India and one from Japan corresponding to the new chemical entities (NCEs) for the treatment of disorders associated with neurodegenerative diseases...," Suven Life Sciences said in a filing to BSE.

These patents are valid through 2026 and 2032, respectively, it added.

The products are useful in the treatment of cognitive impairment associated with neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease, attention-deficient hyperactivity disorder, Huntington's disease, major depressive disorder, Parkinson's and schizophrenia, Suven Life Sciences said.

Suven Life Sciences CEO Venkat Jasti said: "We are very pleased by the grant of these patents to Suven for our pipeline of molecules in CNS (central nervous system) arena that are being developed for cognitive disorders with high unmet medical need with huge market potential globally." With these new patents, Suven has a total of 19 granted patents from India and 19 from Japan, the company said.

"Products out of these inventions may be out-licensed at various phases of clinical development like in phase-I or phase-II," it added.

Shares of Suven Life Sciences were trading 1.14 per cent up at Rs 190.65 on BSE.
