Star Citizen raises 48 million in crowdfunding and promises Alien languages if they reach 50. Krishna Bahirwani explores the details.

Star Citizen is being made exclusively through crowd funding and aims to be the first ever fully crowd funded AAA game, a game that has a high development budget and level of promotion therefore high in quality, giving the players something to remember.

That leaves artists and developers to do what they do best, without having to worry about things like corporate approvals. Star Citizen fans have told the world that they want a space sim for the platform they have grown up on and love and Roberts team is determined make the PC game they want. For the first time in decades it is believed that development will be beholden to a pure creative vision.

"Star Citizen has grown from my crazy dream to one that is shared by more than 400-thousand other crazy dreamers, with new ones joining every day, all united in attempting to build the most ambitious space sim and sandbox game ever. What makes this quest even tougher is that we are committed to do this in a fully open environment, with the ongoing involvement of the community, and sharing portions of the game as it's developed for feedback while working on the bigger feature set. That means even though we're a ways out from the full game being finished, we are still in a live environment with an enormous number of users. That brings a whole new set of challenges." said Star Citizens creator, Chris Roberts

"What Chris is doing with Star Citizen is absolutely unprecedented in the industry. The entertainment potential for a totally open-ended universe that gives players complete freedom to pursue their own path is staggering" said Tony Zurovec, Star Citizen's Director of Persistent Universe

Pledging support for the game gives players the ability to access game modules as they come online all the way through the final release. Long before the Alpha or Beta stages, players will have access to their hangars, ships, dogfighting and planet side environments so they can participate in the development process.

Pledgers aren't just buying a game, you become part of it, with full access to interact with developers on a daily basis, receive constant updates and see work as it goes from concept to final release.

"As we promised last time, we're going to return to our tradition of stretch goals that improve the core game. The ongoing funding keeps the project running on the scale it is today… but we're also eager to find ways to improve what we've already planned. We've come up with one for the $50 million goal that we think will truly improve the immersion, and help make Star Citizen a
living, breathing world:

Alien Languages – Do you speak Banu? We will work with real-world linguists to create
distinctive and realistic alien languages for Star Citizen's three biggest alien races, the Vanduul,
the Xi'An and the Banu. No universal translators, no garbled animal noises: Star
Citizen's aliens will be speaking their own authentic languages!
I'm excited about this one… and looking forward to meeting the first fan who learns to speak one of our languages! As always, thank you for your support. Star Citizen would not exist without our backers. Keep spreading the word!" Roberts adds via an official transmission
