Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next-generation high-end phablet at the brand's traditional Unpacked event in New York this summer. Skipping the number six to harmonize names across its mobile device range, the Galaxy Note 7 promises powerful performance and curved edges.

While the phablet keeps its 5.7-inch format, the new model is expected to bring a host of new features compared with its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5, presented September 2015 at the IFA trade fair in Berlin, Germany, and never released in Europe.

Many credible leaks have already done the rounds on social media, and specialist tech sites have a pretty good idea of what's in store from this upcoming model. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to get a QHD Super AMOLED screen with slightly curved edges, built-in storage ranging from 64GB to 256GB, depending on the model, and a microSD card slot for boosting capacity. The device promises high-level performance, with a 2.6GHz Exynos 8893 processor (for Europe) and 6GB of RAM, like the recently released OnePlus 3.

Leaks suggest that the Galaxy Note 7 has a 12-Megapixel rear-facing main camera and a 5-Megapixel front-facing camera, as well as a USB Type-C port, an iris scanner for unlocking the handset, and a 4,000mAh battery promising over two days' use. It should also ship with a stylus and run Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 (before Android Nougat lands this fall) with the new Samsung Grace UX interface. Waterproof to one meter and dust resistant, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to land in black, silver and blue versions for release from the end of August, 2016.
