Samsung pulled out all the stops as they unveiled a bunch of new products today at CES (Consumer Electronic Show) like a SSD that transfers at 450MB/s, surely mere mortals like us would find this a little overwhelming but the implications that it can have for professionals could be limitless. They also showcased a fridge that keeps an eye on you food, a laptop that weighs under two pounds, a smartwatch that can now connect to iOS and Android and a SUHD TV with a colour contrast and array of features that will blow you away.

Notebook 9 range of laptops

The best specs one can get out these ultra thin and light laptops are Intel Core i7 Processor with 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD storage for the 15-inch Notebook 9. There is also a 13-inch Notebook 9 that has a 128GB SSD. Even though all this seems quite impressive, the most notable feature is that the heaviest model weighs under three pounds, more precisely the 13-inch model weighs in at just 0.84kg or 1.85lbs while the 15-inch model weighs in at 1.29kg or 2.84lbs.

An issue that some people may have, is that these laptops have not integrated 4K resolution into their system. The best it can do is 1080p display resolution.

The Notebook 9 would also be considered a rather traditional laptop. What this means is that they don't have touch screens or many fancy features

SmartWatches

The Gear S2 Classic SmartWatch now comes in two new colours, platinum and rose gold. Samsung said that the watches are made using premium material, with either 18-carat rose gold or pure platinum, Samsung says.

Samsung also tweeted that SamsungPay will be available to GearS2 SmartWatch users with NFC early this year starting in the US.

The Gear S2’s now has a larger app ecosystem that includes Facebook Messenger, Uber and  iHeartRadio. Samsung also offers 3G connectivity, for those of you who want to take your SmartWatch for runs or to the gym and leave your SmartPhone at home.

T3 SSD (Solid State Drive)

Samsung's new Portable T3 SSD is enclosed in a metal case that can take 1500G of force or a drop from about six feet. It also comes in capacities ranging from 250GB all the way up to 2TB.

The key feature in this beast is that it is capable of reaching a transfer rate of up to 450MB/s through a USB 3.1.

US, China, Korea and select European countries are lucky enough to get the T3 SSD in February while the rest of us will have to wait.

Smart Refrigerator

The device's most interesting feature is that the fridge has an embedded camera that keeps an eye on what's in the fridge. It is also accessible through an app or a touchscreen tablet built directly into the fridge's door.

There are also humidity and temperature sensors while the camera can monitor food spoilage.

A “D-Day” alert notifies you when a particular food item has been left long enough to spoil. The fridge also lets you order food items via the fridge’s display

To sweeten the deal Samsung has equipped a pair of speakers into the fridge so that you can keep up-to-date with news and apparently even listen to music.

SUHD Television Sets

Samsung unveiled their new SUHD television sets that have curved designs.

The new sets will be available in sizes start from 49-inches till 88-inches. According to Samsung the 10-bit Quantum dot displays delivers “the most true-to-life picture quality, with stunning brightness, exceptional contrast and the most lifelike colours ever offered.”

The range of TVs will run on Tizen operating system that includes features like SmartHub that allows you to watch content from Netflix, Hulu or regular network TV.

There are also over 500 different games that you can download and play which includes an array of PlayStation Now titles like Assassin’s Creed III, Batman: Arkham Origins, and The LEGO Movie

A button on Samsung’s Smart Control remote will pop up information of content you’re watching.
