As the pressure increases for companies to introduce something new and exciting to their devices, Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 on a global platform. Curvy and gorgeous, the smartphone (or phablet) is feature-rich with over-the-top specifications you can possibly imagine, which again proves that Samsung can push the limits of the saturated Android market.

Let’s straight away jump to what’s new in the latest iteration of the Note Series, which is not available in its sibling, the S series, or rather, most other Android devices.

1. Blink, and your phone is unlocked!

Samsung wants you to use unlock your phone with minimal movement. And hence, the Note 7 comes equipped with an IRIS scanner, which is reportedly impressively fast! This feature will also be used to secure all your private information on the smartphone as well. Don’t worry, Samsung has packed in the fingerprint sensor as well.

2. What if you want to make notes while scuba-diving?

The S Pen has always been the star for Samsung’s Note series. Samsung channelizes its energy to make the S Pen bundled with new and exciting features as well, otherwise the Note Series wouldn’t be any different from the Galaxy S series.

For starters, the S Pen is now thinner and shorter, compared to the one in the Note 5. Additionally, it is water resistant with an IP68 certification. This means, if you want to learn scuba diving but want to take notes while being under water, it might just be that easy. You can take the device to depths beyond 1 meter respectively. It’s the electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology on the Note 7 which does this miracle. Reports point out that the digitizer in this device can communicate with the internal coil in the S Pen, to identify its position and degree of pressure - an interaction unhindered by water. And when you aren’t under water, the S Pen now offers a Magnify feature which lets you zoom into minute content on websites along with a Translate feature which can recognise over 38 languages and translate a whopping 71 languages.

3. A ‘screen’ of steel

Just 2 weeks after Corning unveiled the Gorilla Glass 5, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 already comes equipped with it. (That was quick).

Drop it, throw it, and run over it, the screen will not break. (Though we highly recommend that you do neither of those). Gorilla Glass 5 has been used for protection on both, the back and front of the smartphone. Let’s hope that if you drop your smartphone, the new Gorilla Glass 5 will save you!

4. Stop typing, send GIFs

Looks like the focus this year is on GIFs. And why not, they tend to grow on you. Keeping up with the digital trends, Samsung introduced a GIF-maker in the device itself. With the new device, you can take clips from your videos, or YouTube to create GIFs without any third-party software. All you have to do is select a part of your screen with the S Pen and tap to record and capture the GIF on your screen.

5. Keep all you secrets extra-safe

After Blackberry, Samsung is focusing on security. The company has created a separate folder called  “Secure Folder” on the smartphone for sensitive files – photos, videos, contact, and apps. The folder is protected by the company’s KNOX security. For an extra layer of security, you can unlock the folder with an iris scan, fingerprint or a passcode.
