RSS today congratulated ISRO for its successful launch of 104 satellites into space and said in setting this record it has announced its role as a strong but benign contender at the international level.

"In recent decades, India has made long strides in the field of aeronautics space technology on its own, and the successful deployment of 104 satellites into the designated orbit, setting a new record...has, apart from adding one more feather to ISRO's cap, also announced its role in India as a strong but benign contender in the field at the international level," RSS joint general secretary Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi said.

He said India has been a pioneer not only in spiritual sciences but also in empirical sciences and recalled how from Aryabhata and Varahamihira there has been a long, unending stream of scientists that India has contributed to the world.

"We take this opportunity to congratulate the authorities, scientists and all others who have been involved in this mission," he said.

Lauding ISRO, head of RSS' communications department Manmohan Vaidya also said, "Hearty Congratulations to ISRO team for making the nation proud for successful launch of record number of satellites in one go."

Space agency ISRO yesterday scripted history by successfully launching 104 satellites, including India's weather observation Cartosat-2 Series, in a single mission onboard its dependable Polar rocket from Sriharikota.

Bettering Russian space agency's feat of launching 37 satellites in a single mission in 2014, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) injected the Cartosat-2 Series satellite and 103 nano satellites into precise orbit after a textbook lift-off from this spaceport, about 100 km from Chennai.

The previous highest number of satellites launched by ISRO in one mission was 20 in June 2015, it said.
