Smart phone battery life has been a major problem for users worldover. Limitations in battery technology and the creation of power hungry apps have only exacerbated this problem further. “This is what gave rise to the portable charging market segment, which is worth over USD 9 billion and over $60 million in India,” informs Arzan Irani, co-founder, Xyra. Being technophiles, Irani and his childhood friends Sahej Sethi and Armaan Gandhi who always wanted to work together, decided to explore the portable charging segment by taking it a step further.

“After immense research we came to the conclusion that not only do smart phone users need an on-the-go battery, but they also need other accessories/ gadgets on a daily basis (especially students),” informs Gandhi. Keeping in mind the daily digital needs of smart phone users, the trio invented 'XS powercard'. “We wanted it to integrate seamlessly into the life of a user so we created the XS powercard – a 2200 mAh portable charger, a USBcable, and an 8, 16 and 32GB data storage device, all in your wallet,” informs Sethi. XS powercard is an amalgamation of three essential daily digital devices. “It is built-upon the cornerstones of portability, convenience, and elegance,” says Gandhi.

Speaking about the challenges the new entrepreneurs feel to succeed they need to understands the importance of learning from, adapting to and growing with their business. Experts suggest that 90 percent of start-ups fail because the founders get bored, discouraged, or something else, and they move on to other things, not because of some catastrophe. “The the common problem for most entrepreneurs in a start up is the belief that each one can handle all of the start-up’s operations by themselves,” says Gandhi. He advises entrepreneurs to do what they love for instance, “Irani is the think-tank so he does the developing, engineering and calls the shots in all technical things. Gandhi on the other hand has an extensive knowledge of the American technology market, so he manages the creative content and analyzes the financial models, as for me I sell,” says Sethi.

With regards to their future plans, the Xyra team proposes, “As the business expands we want to make sure that every product we create adds a paramount level of convenience to a users life, we wish to make technology work for people and not the other way around,” Gandhi concludes.
