Pokemon Go, the addictive game which has almost everyone hooked on to their smartphones, is largely popular in India, even without an official release.

A report by Associated Press, as quoted by Economic Times explains, “Organized "Pokewalks" are becoming common in cities such as Mumbai and New Delhi, where hundreds are gathering to catch pokemons.”

As the app has not launched in India, many users are using VPN (Virtual Private Networks) services to change their locations to New York and London and play the game, from their home.

14-year-old Nikhil Kapil from Mumbai says, “You really feel like you're walking around in tall grass, catching all your favorite pokemons.”

Augmented reality and fancy jargon aside, in layman terms, Pokemon Go is basically a game. Albeit a game that rose to the top of the App Store revenue charts, earning millions of dollars a day for its publisher Niantic. This massively successful location-based augmented reality game has a large part of the smartphone-wielding world glued to their devices, wandering seemingly and aimlessly on roads looking for creatures to acquire.
