Google celebrates its 18th birthday today with a simple, animated doodle. In these 18 years, Google has successfully rolled out numerous products and services which are used globally, by endless users.

On the company’s birthday, we take a look at the top 5 products introduced by Google, which has 1 BILLION USERS, and more.

1. Android

Android is the world's most popular mobile platform. (No offence, Apple) Google’s OS powers hundreds of millions of mobile devices in more than 190 countries around the world. Nearly 8 years old, Android can be installed on a variety of smartphones and tablets from a host of manufacturers offering users access to Google’s own services.

Android versions over the years include, the recent Android 7.0 Nougat and goes back to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android 4.4 KitKat, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Android 2.2 Froyo, Android 2.1 Éclair, Android 1.6 Donut and Android 1.5 Cupcake.

2. YouTube

YouTube, created by three former PayPal employees was acquired by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion. It has 1 billion active users, in a month! The fast-growing video site today originally began life as a video dating site dubbed ‘Tune In Hook Up’ which was influenced by HotorNot. Back in the day, the first video to ever be uploaded to YouTube was by its co-founder Jawed Karim which debuted online on April 23, 2005.

3. Gmail

Early this year, Google’s Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai announced that their Gmail service is their latest product to exceed one billion users. Gmail quickly rose to fame when it was launched in 2004 with its unconventional large mailbox offering, teamed with fast and effective searching. Offering a ‘neat and clean’ interface, the service saw a quick adoption globally.

4. Google Maps

Google introduced Maps in 2005. The mapping service is said to have accumulated over 20 petabytes of data, which is approximately equal to 21 million gigabytes. You can practically view the map of any part of the world.

Google Maps isn’t the company’s only mapping product. Google Earth also offers many features you won’t find in Google Maps.

5. Google Chrome

Chrome, a web browser developed by Google released in 2008. In 2015, Google Chrome had 1 billion active users. Without a doubt, Google Chrome is the world’s most preferred browser which brings together your entire Google experience, via a single sign in.
