Facebook Live is one of the most convenient ways to broadcast video from your mobile phone. However there are times where it’s not always convenient to do so, especially when a laptop or a desktop with an embedded webcam would have been preferable.

Until now, the ability to live stream for a desktop was only available to pages and not to individual user accounts.

The social media service today announced they will be opening up their live streaming service to desktop users as well. All you’ll need to transmit yourself is a webcam -- the kind available off the shelf, or the one integrated in your laptop screen. Also with the desktop integration, it will also be possible to host more professional Facebook Live sessions by using supplemental hardware and software for higher-quality video, titling, as well as multiple camera angles.

Hosting a live video from a desktop could be a boon to videos such as Q&As, interviews, as well as round-table discussions.

This new feature will also be a boon to gamers -- similar to the popular Twitch service, desktop gamers can now post live videos of their on-screen exploits directly to their Facebook News Feed and user profiles.
