WhatsApp rolled out a new feature overnight, modifying the existing in-app notifications. Where a double tick used to represent that a message has reached the recipient, it now turns blue when the message has been read.
WhatsApp, in its FAQ section, explains that the feature pertains to group chat as well. The double checkmarks will appear as normal, when everyone has received the message, and will turn blue after every participant has read the message. The feature has been rolled out over-the-air, without requiring any software updates, and features on Android, iOS and Microsoft phones as well.
