'Once upon a time...', a spindle, a glass slipper, princess and her prince charming all became part of our lives all thanks to 17th-century author and academician Charles Perrault. Google celebrates the man's 388th birthday with beautiful illustrations from the stories as their loved-by-all doodles.

There are three doodles created to mark the occasion. The tableaus are of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Puss in Boots.

Perrault wrote his first fairytale in 1697 at the age of 70. Stories or Tales from Times Past, with Morals: Tales of Mother Goose had eight stories including Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella.

Perrault, an academic from Paris spent most of his life in the court of King Louis XV in the 17th century. His stories were contemporary to modern novels like Don Quixote, Robinson Crusoe. But the phrase 'Once upon a time...' fills us with optimistic expectation of '...happily ever after' ending.

The doodles are created by artist Sophie Diao and they all summarise the stories for one-glance understanding
