Another online database has been the victim of a hacking incident with millions of users’ passwords and personal details now vulnerable. The target this time was erstwhile popular social network, Myspace.

Of course, most of you haven’t used Myspace in years, so you’re probably safe right? The problem is that, while a compromised Myspace profile itself may not worry you, the thought of your linked password floating around the internet should, especially if you’re one to recycle passwords across platforms.

Time Inc., who acquired Myspace earlier this year in February, confirmed the hack this morning after an initial report by LeakedSource, a website that aggregates details of compromised databases. Time Inc’s announcement doesn’t offer any numbers, but details that all the accounts hacked were those created prior to 2013, before Myspace strengthened its security precautions. LeakedSource, however states that over 360 million records were stolen, way back on June 11, 2013. According to Motherboard, Myspace’s team was only alerted to the hack over this weekend, after its security teams spotted a known hacker named Peace attempting to sell the data dump for 6 Bitcoins, or roughly US $3,200. Peace was also putting the data of 164 million LinkedIn users on sale a week ago.

Myspace has, on it’s blog, stated it’s pursuing the case with authorities, and improving its security protection, aside from monitoring old accounts for suspicious activity. Again, even if you're Myspace account has been in Internet Purgatory for a decade, it's time you made sure you're current social media or email accounts don't share it's password.
