The MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro is thin and lightweight vr ready laptop that packs a solid punch. With the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card and 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor, MSI have managed to cram a lot of raw power into this compact device. The best thing about this laptop is that it has the guts of a hardcore gaming laptop while being portable enough to lug around without using arduous amounts of effort.

Build Quality

To the untrained eye, this 15.6-inch laptop won’t look like a gaming laptop at all. Compared to other gaming laptops, this one is surprisingly skinny. Measuring only 17.9mm thin and weighing in at just 1.89kg (3.96 pounds), it will comfortably fit into any 15-inch laptop bag. Its keyboard has LED light functionality that lights up in three different sections (Left, right and middle). One interesting design choice is that the GS63VR Stealth Pro does not have a Windows Key on the bottom left side of the keyboard, opting to place just one on the bottom right side -- It's something you could get accustomed to. The reason for this exclusion is that users don't accidentally press the Windows Key while gaming. For those of you who don't know, pressing the Windows Key while a game is running will minimize the game, which will most likely lead to you to getting killed if you’re playing online.

On the right edge of the laptop, you'll find a USB 2.0 port, USB 3.1 port, Thunderbolt port, an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, the power button and a charging port.

On the left edge is three USB 3.0 ports, a microSD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet port, a secure lock slot, a microphone/3.5mm headphone jack and a Hi-Fi headphone jack.

Performance

The laptop comes with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR5 RAM and Intel’s 6th generation Core i7 processor clocked at 2.6-GHz coupled with 16GB
of RAM that is expandable up to 32GB. The laptop is an absolute beast when it comes to performance. Whether its video editing or hardcore gaming, this laptop can handle almost anything.

However, with all that muscle this laptop can get really hot around the vents. Compared to previous versions the laptop now comes with an additional fan (3 fans in total) and an addition heat pipe (5 heatpipes in total) to get its temperature under control. With the company’s own Cooler Boost Trinity technology, you can configure these fans to take full effect only when the GPU and CPU get too hot, preventing any unnecessary usage and prolonging the laptop's life.

The only drawback was its battery life, it barely lasts for a couple of hours so you'll have to carry your charger if you want to get any work done.

Gaming

The gaming performance of the GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro is nothing short of remarkable. The laptop can handle anything you throw at it. After an 8-hour long gaming session of DOTA 2 and Paragon Beta at its highest video quality settings -- including anti-aliasing, VSync, highest texture quality, highest shadow quality, maxed out rendering etc. -- there wasn't any discernible drop in performance. Furthermore, it also supports a large selection of games available for the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets.

With SteelSeries Engine 3, games like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike come with its very own keyboards LED light indicators that can be set up to give gamers specific key information. This makes a huge difference in an intense gaming session in which a difference of milliseconds can change outcomes.

In DOTA 2, (which is what I spent most of my time on) you can configure it to show you key information about health, manna, buyback gold and much more. Once configured it will blink coherently, indicating that the character’s health or mana has dropped below a pre-decided threshold or that buyback is now available. At first, this feature seemed a little tacky, but after a few hours, I felt that it gave me an edge over my opponents.

With this laptop, you can also bind composite actions to a single key. This is great for fighting games like Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat XL but it does tend to feel a little like cheating. Having your main combos linked to a few keys means that you could win a match with one hand tied behind your back (literally).

Audio

Despite its petite size, the laptop’s speakers are quite loud and clear. The Sound effect while playing Battlefield 1 put me right in the heart of the war. The eerie whistling of mortar projectiles slowly raining around, the crackling noise my gear made while my character charged into enemies on the back of a trusty steed was immersive. And these sound effects come across far better when experienced via a pair of good headphones.

Display

The laptop comes with a 15.6-inch IPS display with a Full HD (1920x1080) resolution. The colours on this laptop are exquisite. Brighter colours like red and darker shades of blue really drew my attention -- this display is a perfect extension to the computer’s internals.

Conclusion

If you can afford the hefty price tag of Rs 1,77,900 and if you are looking for a gaming laptop that isn't bulky then I would recommend the GS63VR 6RF Stealth Pro. It comes with all the internal (and then some) that will keep you gaming for years to come provided you have a power outlet nearby.
