Microsoft will soon add wheelchair options for their Xbox avatars

A positive step towards inclusivity, the gaming giant has said the next update will include representation for disabled gamers.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is adding a wheelchair option to Xbox avatars, some time in the near future.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer,, confirmed the news on Twitter in response to a tweet proposing a petition for the addition of wheelchairs. Spencer responded saying, "No petition needed, we hear you. This is something that we've already looked at, not far off." 

Mike Ybarra from Xbox then tweeted a "sneak peek" of what to expect from the update with a picture of two avatars using Xbox-themed wheelchairs.

It has not yet been announced when the wheelchairs will become available, but it was announced in June that the Xbox will receive its next big update in August, sometime around the launch of the new Xbox One S
