In a bid to thwart government snooping on its customers' private data, Microsoft has reportedly announced its plans to offer overseas data storage to users.

The software maker is offering customers in foreign countries the option of having their data stored outside US borders.

According to The Verge, the announcement comes after revelations that the NSA was using their networks to snoop-on citizens of Brazil and the European Union.

Although, there is evidence that the NSA has broken into the private networks of Google and Yahoo, Microsoft's offer of non-US data storage would allow users to have an additional layer of security.

Microsoft also continues its move to shift web traffic away from the US in response to the NSA scandal, in Brazil and elsewhere, the report added.
