After what might have seemed like an interminable wait, users of Sony’s Xperia Z2 and Z3 range of flagship phones are finally seeing the Over The Air (OTA) rollout of Android’s Marshmallow operating system.

The Sony devices that originally received the Android 6.0 update included the Xperia Z5 series, the Z4 tablet and the Xperia X3+, followed by devices that were enrolled into the Sony Marshmallow Beta program.

The new series of phones that are seeing this update include the Xperia Z3 (D6646 and D6653), Xperia Z3 Compact (D5833), Xperia Z3 Dual (D6633), Xperia Z2 (D6502) and the Xperia Z2 Tablet (SGP511, SGP512 and SGP521.)

Besides the regular Android Marshmallow goodies including Google Now on Tap, the native fingerprint support, individual app permissions, and the battery-saving Doze Mode, it also includes Sony-specific features such as an updated camera app, Xperia Messaging and the Direct Share feature for convenient phone-to-phone file sharing.

At over 900MB this Marshmallow update is quite large, so prepare accordingly by logging into a WiFi network to prevent over utilization of your cellular data.
