My work involves extensively using a laptop, but in terms of using mobile tech, it is limited to MS Office, emailing and browsing sites. So when I got my hands on Lenovo’s latest toy- the 13.3" Yoga 2 Pro tablet, for testing, it was going to be an experience limited to my work habits.

So does it work for me? The tablet ticks most boxes for me. Its battery lasted the whole day, which is typically an 11-hour work day. While the tablet should ideally charge using any micro-USB data cable, apparently it doesn’t. The charger isn’t proprietary, but I guess it’s the sheer volume of the battery that requires the heavy-duty charger shipped in the box.

The WiFi reception is great. My phone sometimes has trouble picking up my WiFi network in my bedroom, but not this tablet. Pages loaded quickly and YouTube videos had zero lag. And the sheer size of the tablet is awesome. It gives you the feel of working on a laptop, and i never felt the need for a separate physical keyboard. It’s another story that I'm at home using a touchscreen keyboard, but even on a Samsung Note 2, which at one point of time was one of the biggest phablets in the market, I always yearned for a bigger screen. The Lenovo Yoga 2 8-inch tablet was a delight to work on, but the pleasure of using the 13.3" was manifold. Text and images are big, bold, and in your face.

Using a 13.3-inch tablet to click photos? Naah, but it still does the job well, with both 8 MP rear camera and the 1.6 MP front camera usable for video calls. You might think 1.6MP is too low end for a selfie, but seriously, would you really hold up something of that size anyway? The Yoga 2 Pro full HD screen and Dolby speakers are brilliant and are great for watching a movie at home (or when the boss isn’t around).

The Yoga 2 Pro’s stand out feature has been its kickstand. It is something that sets the tablet apart from its competitors and is one of the smartest innovations in the market, giving you a perfect angle for everything that you want to do with it. The best part is the small button that opens the kickstand with a gentle press. An improvement over the tedious 8-inch version kickstand, which lacked the push button.

But the USP for the tablet, and something that overawed my kids, is the in-built projector that allows you to project anything that you want from the screen. It was sheer fun turning the projector on and watching YouTube videos on my bedroom ceiling while lying down. The images were sharp and its auto keystone works well. Could be handy for those quick office presentations, where you need not go through the torture of connecting your laptop to office projection systems.

So will I buy this tablet? No. No? After Talking it up for so long?Yes. The serious drawback of the tablet is the price tag. At 50K, why would I buy a tablet that runs android and has only 16 GB memory? Good quality hybrids are available at that price and the only feature they will lack, is the projector. No sir, not a wise buy at Rs 49,990.
