Months after it was reported that a bidding war was underway to acquire the rights to a "Pokemon" movie, Deadline has now confirmed that Legendary Pictures is moving toward a deal to land the rights to make a live-action film on the wildly popular pocket monster game from Japan.

While Legendary has not yet offered up any official comment, and details remain scarce on the film itself, rumors related to the feature have been circulating for some time, including talk that "Chronicle" scribe Max Landis was being touted to pen the script.

What is clear is that the recent staggering response to the "Pokemon Go" game app, has elevated the value of any "Pokemon" movie property to "red hot."

As previously reported, the augmented reality mobile game "Pokemon Go" is on track to surpass Twitter in daily active users on Android and is reportedly more popular than both Snapchat and dating app Tinder, according to recent figures published by online traffic estimator tool SimilarWeb.
