According to a couple of supposedly leaked manufacturing documents from the company, it appears there may be up to three new iPhone models poised for release next year. Among these is what seems like an altogether new variant that is allegedly codenamed “Ferrari.”

Unearthed by a user on the Chinese Sina Weibo website -- who is known for leaking information from Apple’s manufacturing unit in the area -- the alleged documentation includes three new codenames: D20, D21 and D22, as reported first on Chinese blog cnBeta (see the Google translation here.) The current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are codenamed D10 and D20.

This news appears to conform with prior rumors that pointed to two upgraded versions of their currently flagships (most likely an iPhone 7S and a 7S Plus) along with a completely new device that is expected to push the limits of the state of the art, complete with an all-glass design with most likely a borderless OLED display. The inclusion of this new display technology appears to be in line with what famous Apple forecaster and KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in November, with news of Apple sourcing a 5.1- or 5.2-inch OLED screen from Samsung. The undercurrents also point toward use of a plastic mounting for the screen, indicating the possibility of the display being curved.

The new “Ferrari” variant is also rumored to feature an all-new internal circuit board design that will comprise two separate logic boards that are internally connected via a flex cable: the first board will carry their primary processing unit (most likely an A11 chipset) along with the NAND flash storage, while the second will house the communications chipset including the circuitry for WiFi and cellular communication.
