An 82-year-old Japanese audiophile named Takeo Morita wanted the best sound quality out of his system so bad… that he spend $10,000 to install his own personal 40-foot electricity pylon.

The new pylon is to compliment his $60,000 American-made amplifier and a German loudspeakers -- that was previously used in a theater -- among other expensive equipment.

The reasoning behind the retired lawyer’s pricey new setup is to give him the “purest” electricity to run his equipment.

“Electricity is like blood. If it is tainted, the whole body will get sick,” said Morita in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

“No matter how expensive the audio equipment is, it will be no good if the blood is bad,” said he added.

What's even more surprising is that this is becoming a growing trend in Japan. A company called Denki Corp claims that it has already installed over 40 electricity pylons including the one for Morita in the past decade.

With one of these power poles, “the music melts into the air of the room,” says the president of Izumi Denki Corp, Sumio Shimamoto.
