The television industry in India is a big one and is growing as it penetrates places in India that did not previously have access to it, but today's educated youth find themselves increasingly detached from it. They are more interested in dynamic, interactive and reletively unmoderated platforms like YouTube.

"YouTube offers a much bigger variety of entertainment than our television channels offer. It's convenient to access on your computer, tv or even phone & easy to share content with friends. I also think it's because many video content creators, irrespective of niche offer viewers a real glimpse into their lives through vlogs & such, so although the fans of famous youtuber revere them like celebrities, they still feel like they know them in a very real way, something that you won't find on tv." said Magali Vaz, photographer and beauty blogger.

YouTube has reletively less control mechanisms set up and allows anybody to create content and these things play a big role in why it's becoming so popular."As much as I like Indian television, there are not many shows being produced for the young demographic. Whereas YouTube on the other hand gives you sharp, niche content and direct interaction with the creators. " said Karishma Rawat, internet blogger and YouTube expert.

"YouTube gives me so much creative liberty to explore different topics and I can reach out to people globally. I have a wider reach and more variety on the choice of topics I chose to speak about. I can talk about topics like sex and other bold subjects which would probably be censored on television." said Simran Kapoor, professional YouTuber.

"Telvision on the other hand, is meant to give us a sense that we know what's going on but what we never question is the fact that we are being given information that is in the best interest of the organizations producing it or their parent companies which may create's a conflict of interest in cases such as television news where negetive news on a parent company is not discussed. This sort of television does not give us complete information and instead is here with the objective of entertainment and keeping us watching as long as possible. Äs more and more people realize this they tend to switch to something that is not moderated as much like YouTube. Today's youth makes up a large portion of that population as we are tired of the way things are around us." added Karishma

Although YouTube is still to reach it's full potential in terms of revenue for content creators, Indian's have dedicated their lives to it.

"I used to be a web programmer but now I have moved to YouTube. The money might not be great but the kind of community support and job satisfaction I get, I hope to do this for the rest of my life. " said Ranjit Kumar aka Geekyranjit, who supports himself and his family via his YouTube income.

As YouTube has picked up popularity organizations have also moved to YouTube to create YouTube channels and curate content. The partnership is very different from that of television as it's more like a partnership and less like the artist is employed by the network.

"Fame, the network I work with provides me with all the equipment I need to shoot the video and I provide them the creative content. So they handle the technical aspect and I handle the creative aspect. They also help giving me inputs on my scripts apart from the execution. We work as a team and share the profits. It is much easier when you are working with a network because you know you are in safe hands and you are working with experienced people who know the YouTube market well enough to guide you in the right direction. I do pranks as a part of my videos, going outdoor hiding cameras and making sure that no one gets offended is a pretty difficult job in itself. Fame makes that possible. If you have the talent, you can approach a network and they will guide you through the entire process. As for me, I didn't even know cracking jokes could be a talent. And now I'm actually doing it for a living." Simran added.
