Gizmodo reports that a new app is in the works that will allow transfer of money between friends using the Facebook messenger. This feature would allow you to send and accept money via Facebook using a debit card or the debit card information that has already been fed in before.

Gizmodo spoke with Andrew Aude who discovered the feature through an app meant for developers. A screenshot by Jonathan Zdziarski hinted at a possible app and Aude found a full fledged version of it.

The code for the app mentions Paypal. Facebook had recently hired ex-Paypal president David Marcus as head of its Messenger.

Aude found that the app let you add a pincode for security reasons and kept all transactions private. It however didn't allow for credit cards or bank accounts and multi-party transactions.

Aude suspects that the app is already being used by some Facebook employees.

Will this new feature give the likes of PayPal, Venmo, Square or Clinkle a run for their money? Only time will tell.
