American teenagers have reportedly named the iPhone as their most desired item for this holiday season, according to a survey.

Performed on behalf of online cash-back shopping site Ebates, the survey probed deeply into the desires of 12- to 17-year-olds, of which 88 percent of them said they most wanted to get some sort of gadget, with the most desired item among them was the iPhone.

According to CNET, however, the iPhone was not the most popular choice of gadget among boys, who clearly mentioned their preference for the PlayStation 4 as their No. 1, unlike girls, 41 percent for whom chose the iPhone, with Apple topping the list.

12 percent of the teenagers were most desperate for a Samsung Galaxy phone, as opposed to 32 percent for Apple's offering, especially the iPad, the survey further revealed.
