HTC, has launched its very own online store for virtual reality content, called Viveport.

The Vive headset maker is releasing a beta version of the store to developers soon, although the store proper will be accessible to users only later this year. Once the platform arrives, you’ll be able to create and shop for VR content, as well as subscribe to a variety of services.

HTC has also said it will update the Vive headset to let you watch regular movies in VR, as well as allow you to decorate the (currently blank) home screen.

"It has been hard for some creators of educational content to surface in the app stores and be promoted, because a lot of it is around gaming," said HTC’s senior VP of virtual reality Rikard Steiber.  "We want virtual reality to be something a lot more mass market."

HTC has also specified that the Viveport VR app store won't replace the current  Steam storefront, but will instead appear alongside it. In addition, Viveport will also be accessible via browsers, PC and mobile appsand hosted content will not be exclusive to the Vive headset.
