This guide will show you how to increase the inbuilt storage on your PlayStation 4 by yourself.
In the age of the 50GB game, going digital on a standard PlayStation 4 can be extremely difficult. Adding DLCs, saved game data, screen shots, video clips of your gameplay, game and system updates to the mix makes it near impossible to have more than a few games stored on your console at the same time. For this to work, you will need a PlayStation 4, Phillips-head screwdriver, a USB flash drive with at least a GB of storage capacity and a 2.5-inch laptop hard drive. Before you continue you may want to create a backup of your game data.
Step 1: Start off by removing the 2.5-inch laptop hard drive from the outer casing and unhinging all the screws with the Phillips-head screwdriver.
Step 2: Disconnect your PS4 from the power supply and remove the HDD. If you have an older model, remove the glossy plastic plate at the left. On the PS4 Pro, the HDD can be exposed by removing the casing on the rear. Then remove the screws and slide the hard drive (with its casing) out of the PS4. Remove the screws that are holding the old HDD into the casing.
Step 3: Replace the old hard drive with the new HDD and re-screw it into the casing using the screws with the PlayStation Symbol) and slide it back into the PlayStation 4. Then re-screw the casing (which now holds the new hard drive) on the PlayStation 4
Step 4: From your computer, download this software from this website. Format the flash drive to FAT32. To do this, Right-click on the flash drive < Click on Format from the drown down menu < select FAT32 < Click on Start at the bottom of the window. Create a folder on the flash drive titled UPDATE and then copy the downloaded file into that folder.
Step 5: Connect the flash drive to the PS4 and switch the console on in safe mode by holding the power button for 8 seconds. Then select Select Initialize PS4 option and follow the onscreen instructions.
