The Ritz-Carlton has become the latest hotel brand to expand the number of charging stations for guests who drive electric cars.

The luxury hotel brand follows the lead of brands like Hilton and Marriott which recently expanded their electric car-charging station programs, in response to the rising popularity of electric vehicles amongst their road-tripping guests.

Guests of the Ritz-Carlton across North America and at select international properties will have access to stations that can charge their cars for the next 150 miles (241 km) or two and a half hours.

Last year, Hilton announced plans to expand their electric vehicle-charging program to 100 properties across the US by the end of this year.

Hilton attributed their expansion plans to the rising number of EVs sold in the US citing statistics from InsideEVs Monthly Scorecard, which pegged the number of cars sold at 350,000 since 2010 -- 120,000 of which were sold in 2014 alone.

Marriott also provides more than 250 electric vehicle-charging stations at their properties around the world.
