IDC has claimed that Apple has had a more profitable first quarter with 19.5 million iPads shipped as well as sold in the local markets.
Tablet computer sales have risen since the first quarter of 2013 and witnessed a growth of 142.4 percent in sales as compared to the same time last year, according to an analysis by the International Data Corporation (IDC).
With Apple sharing the phone market at 39.6 percent, it remains the biggest brand selling tablets, the BBC reports.
According to the report, while Blackberry CEO Thorsten Heins had suggested recently that tablets would not rule the market anymore by 2018, figures have pointed out that 49.2 million tablets have been shipped between January and March 2013.
Commenting that tablets are not a good business model, Heins said that big computer screens might take its place in a few years.

Analysts have also noted that many newer tablets, particularly 7 inch (18cm) models have been selling at the cost price, resulting in minimal profits, despite the growth in number of shipped units.
Samsung have proved to be the second most popular tablet-sellers with 8.8 million tablets shipped and a 17.9% market share, according to IDC.
Heins said that he would consider releasing Blackberry tablets only if they mint profits, following Blackberry’s own tablet, the heavily delayed Playbook, succumbing to low sales since its launch in late 2011, adding that he wants to earn good market shares but not by copying its rivals; he would rather want to focus on the company’s smartphone range.
Meanwhile, IDC has confirmed that smaller screen devices sell more, thereby indicating tablet’s increased sales for a long time to come.
