NEW DELHI: To widen mobile usage, LG GSM phones are offering mobiles in Indian languages, starting with Hindi and Marathi, which will be followed by Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali.

LG's GSM mobile phones country head H S Bhatia said the company is working on a language software.

Bhatia said the mobile phone B2050 is priced at an affordable Rs 2,990. The phone will have a colour monitor with an option of using 65,000 colour screens also.

LG GSM, part of the LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd, is also targeting the black and white mobile phone market. He said like black and white television sets had to move off with the onset of colour, the same will be replicated in the mobile phone arena, spearheaded by LG.

''Even the memory is in the local language, apart from a built-in modem'', Bhatia said.

The GSM phone market in India has seen a phenomenal growth, and cashing in on its experience in this segment internationally, LG plans to establish its brand strength in the domestic market by a combination of new designs and technology.

Although a latecomer in the GSM market, LG has elicited a positive response from Indian customers after it forayed into the GSM segment in India in 2003.

Today it has a product line-up of 10 models that have innovative features such as MP3 with DJ effects, video recording and playback, plug and play, FM radio, Bluetooth and a built-in-modem.

The price ranges from Rs 2,990 to Rs 18,000, Bhatia said.
