Google has been testing an extremely useful feature for Gmail for six years now, and you probably never even knew it existed. All that's about to change. In a blog post on Monday, Google has said it's enabling an "Undo Send" button that's been in beta testing in Google Labs since 2009.

Undo Send, once enabled, holds your email for a few seconds after clicking send, allowing you time to abort mission in case you notice a typo. It was a five second period under beta testing, but you can now select whether you want your mails held for 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. And if  your browser crashes, or you close the window in that time frame, your email will still be sent.

Users who have had Undo Send enabled in Google Labs will retain their setting, whereas users who want to activate it now can do so from the 'General' tab under the Settings menu in Gmail. And while this is only available for the web version of Gmail, Google has said it will extend the feature to it's email app in the future.

Google Labs is a testing ground for features or extensions that aren't quite ready to release for Gmail yet, of which Undo Send has been one of the most popular.
