Google releases new features for Rio's Olympic Games

Google has unveiled a set of fresh features new to its arsenal, in preparation for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, which kick off this week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The additions -- which include details on event schedules, athletes, and medal counts -- will help users follow the Games in real-time, with automatic alerts also to be made available through the Google app for Android and iOS.

Partnerships with broadcasters in more than 60 countries, including the BBC (UK), America Movil (Latin America excluding Brazil), NHK (Japan) will also make event highlights possible via YouTube from select broadcasters in more than 60 countries, as well as mobile live streams from 15 YouTube Creators chosen to cover the games.

Additionally, Google Maps is promoting its enhanced "Street View" facility which will allow users to "preview the places where the world's most talented athletes will make history and explore the breathtaking beauty of Brazil."
