Google has, minus any fanfare, updated its Maps app for Android with a frequently requested feature; voice commands.

Once the update is installed, you can use the “OK Google” command to chart out a route to a new location, search for an alternate route, and much more, without taking your hands off the wheel. This feature is a huge addition, especially for drivers all by themselves in a vehicle, as users don’t have to actually tap the microphone icon to give commands.

In addition, Maps also responds to voice commands regarding details you would usually have to glance at the screen for, question like if there’s traffic up the road, or how close your next turn is.

For those of you looking to dive right in, Google’s announcement has a full list of all the available voice commands for Maps. but before you start that long drive, you might want to double check your settings. Some users claim the tool isn’t enabled by default, so you’ll have to remedy that first.
