Google has launched a new feature aimed at helping travelers choose the best spots to satiate their dim sum craving or cupcake sweet tooth.

In their ongoing bid to become a one-stop shop for mobile travelers and rival the likes of Yelp and TripAdvisor, Google's latest search feature links search results for restaurants, cafes and bars in the US to reviews from critics and well-known dining guides like Eater, Zagat, Refinery29 and Michelin.

For instance, RedFarm in the West Village is a popular search result for the query “Chinese restaurant.”

But in addition to its location and opening hours, the result will also link to reviews from Eater and Serious Eats so that readers can read up on the restaurant's menu and dishes before heading out.

Likewise, a Google search for Lafayette Grand Cafe and Bakery shows that it's a popular address for its Parisian pastries, with Serious Eats naming it one one of the best French bakeries in the New York, and Eater listing it as one of 15 destinations for holiday sweets in the city.

Travelers can also consult Google to see if they have enough time to visit select landmarks and places, checking the average amount of time people spend at destinations like Central Park or the High Line.

The latest development hasn't gone unnoticed by Google's rivals Yelp and TripAdvisor, who've long complained that the search engine unfairly buries their search results further down the page to give Google-owned Zagat and smaller, less competitive sites, top billing, points out Recode.

“If Google would just let users search the web instead of foisting their content upon us…” tweeted TripAdvisor CEO Stephen Kaufer in reaction to the news.
