This premium-level tablet does all it can to deliver an unparalleled on-the-road audio/visual experience
Lenovo today unveiled their ultra thin and light Yoga 900 notebook along with their audio/video centric Yoga Tab 3 Pro tablet. After getting our hands on the notebook, we had a chance to spend time with the tablet, especially taking its unique inbuilt LED projector for a spin.
The Yoga Tab 3 Pro, like its predecessor, is one of those devices that feels as solid as it is built. That cold metal heft and design imparts the unmistakable sense of confidence: here’s a device that wouldn’t shy away from a bit of rough usage. Lenovo claims the Yoga 3 Pro is ‘the world’s smallest home theater’, and while the statement is a stretch in the true home theater sense of the phrase, it’s about as close as you can achieve in the tablet context--integrated into its innovative swivel base construction is a 50 lumen LED DLP projector that lets you beam the device’s screen on any non-reflective surface.
The company claims it can cast a 70-inch display, which it can, but don’t expect it to be comparable to any regular 70-inch sized television in terms of color depth and contrast. That said, the image it projects is surprisingly sharp and bright (the environment needs to be darkened for best results) given that it’s coming from such a diminutive device. It’s a feature that is ideal for sharing spreadsheets (or those goofy puppy videos) with a room full of people. Best of all, with the base of the unit being fully rotate-able, you can cast the projected image on a wall, the floor, or potentially even the ceiling, making for very intriguing use cases.
Both the inbuilt projector and access to the integrated Dolby Audio subsystem is accessed via the Android notification pull down menu.
The theater experience is extended via the integrated quad-speaker system that sits immediately beneath the screen--tiny as this system is, these JBL speakers paired with the device’s Dolby Atmos support makes for the best aural experience you’re likely to experience on a tablet. With the right kind of audio content, you can get an arguably immersive sense of surround sound.
The premium built quality of the device extends even to the rear, with the back of the unit covered in a grippy PU leather that feels pleasingly classy.
The rest of the tablet’s specifications include a 10.1-inch QHD display with a 2560x1600 resolution (approx. 299 ppi pixel density) with Gorilla Glass, 2GB of RAM, an Atom x5-Z8500 processor, a micro SIM slot for 4G data (no voice,) a 13MP rear camera with autofocus, 5MP front camera and a high-capacity 10,200mAH battery with a rated 18 hours of use time.
The device will go on sale by end-February and will be available exclusively on Flipkart for Rs 39,990.
