Stargazers will be surprised as the Taurid meteor shower won't be like your average meteor shower, it will have fireballs streaking across the sky.

The shower will be peaking on November 11th-12th.

Fireballs are extremely bright meteors that last for several seconds and can light up the entire sky before fizzling out.

The Taurid meteor shower is a yearly occurrence that typically lasts from late October into late November as the Earth passes through the debris trail left behind by Comet Encke. Some meteors may even be observed as late as the first days of December.

It is visible best in the northern hemisphere. They are visible from our perspective in the constellation of Taurus, hence the name Taurid meteor shower.

“The annual Taurid meteor shower is going on right now, and we are seeing steady activity in our meteor cameras,” Bill Cooke with NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office said on the agency’s website. “Individuals should not be surprised if they see a bright meteor or fireball over the next few nights.”

A meteor shower happens when the Earth passes through the orbit of a comet or asteroid. The leftover debris from these burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.

The Taurids come from Comet Encke, which left behind a “broad stream of debris” creating the bright meteors.

All you have to do is dress warmly and look up at the night sky away from the city lights.

Even if you miss them this week, they will still be visible for around a month according to EarthSky.
