Fiio, the company involved in the manufacture of audio amplifiers, DACs, cables and desktop converters, has launched their flagship Digital Audio Player--the X7.

This audio player is their first one running Android, and comes with its own customizable music app. The system aims to overcome the limitations of Sample Rate Conversion (SRC,) where a higher sample rate (eg, studio quality) is typically converted to a lower sample rate (for streaming playback for example.) The system dedicates all resources to the playback of music, effectively eliminating the inherent latencies associated with the Android OS that typically runs many apps simultaneously.

This unit is able to direct source music of all sampling rates to the Digital-to-Audio Converter (DAC)--the heart of a digital audio playback system--and play back music at their native sampling rates. This approach ensures lossless audio playback, especially at higher sampling rates.

Aimed at serious audiophiles, the X7 is capable of playing back a variety of audio formats including DXD, DSD 64/128, PCM @384kHz/64-bit, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, or APE. The unit has a 3.97-inch 480x800 multi-touch screen (up to five touch points,) that interprets a range of gestures that can be used to control operation. It is based on Rockchip's RK3188 system-on-a-chip containing four Cortex A9 cores running at 1.4 GHz, for smooth audio playback at even studio-quality bitrates. It also has 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage to which Android apps can be installed. The player is powered by a 3,500mAH battery.

It also supports customization for left- and right-handed users with a symmetrical button layout consisting of six discrete buttons--three on each side that can be mapped as required. The device chassis is crafted utilizing the same type of aluminium used in an iPhone 6S, where it is CNC machined, polished and sand blasted from a single block of metal.

The X7 is available on headphonezone.in, and retails at Rs 49,999.
