Facebook is the most used social networking service in the world, so it should come as no surprise that the tech giants have added a few features that can be very useful. Despite having utility these features usually go unnoticed. Here's my pick of the top hidden Facebook features that are sure to come in handy at some time.

1. Post to Facebook when you're not on Facebook

Facebook has a feature that lets you post videos, photos, or text on the social network through your phone via email. This feature comes especially handy if you're travelling to a country where access to Facebook is banned, you're on a slow WiFi connection or if you want to save on cellular data. To use this, you will first need access to your ‘post-by-email’ address which can be found by going to Settings < Mobile. Your post-by-email address can be seen at the bottom.

Note: You will have to activate Facebook Text Messaging first.

2. Block game requests

There’s nothing more annoying than getting spammed with invitations or requests to games that you don’t play nor have any intention of ever playing. Thankfully, there is a way for these annoying invites to be kept at bay. To do so, go to Settings < Notification Settings, then click the 'Edit' option beside 'On Facebook', then click the 'Edit' option near 'App Requests and Activity' and uncheck the apps you don't use.

3. Turn your profile pic into an animated GIF

You can turn your Facebook profile picture into an animated GIF by using the Facebook mobile app. While using the app, tap your Profile Picture, then tap Edit profile Picture, then ‘Take a New Profile Video’. You can save this video as an animated GIF.

4. Get an alert every time a login attempt is made

To keep hackers from logging into your account, Facebook introduced a feature that notifies you whenever your account is accessed. To activate this feature, go to Settings < Security < Login Alerts, then adjust the setting to receive intruder notifications.
