Facebook has decided to drop the support for BlackBerry's supporting mobile operating system. This will force the users to go for the mobile website of the social media platform, reports the Verge.

The move follows WhatsApp's announcement of discontinuing its BlackBerry 10 and BBOS apps by the end of 2016.

Lou Gazzola, Blackberry's senior marketing manager for developer relations, announced the news on Monday in a blog post.

"We are extremely disappointed in their decision, as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands. Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure that our end-users have the best experience in light of this decision, and we are continuing to search for alternate solutions."

The post does not say when Facebook is planning on doing this. The app is still available in the BlackBerry World app store.

BlackBerry is slowly moving to Android OS. They launched Priv, a sliding keyboard handset with Android. Therefore, if companies will stop developing apps for scarcely used OS, it should not come across as a surprise.
