Facebook is reportedly testing a new feature for Messenger, that lets you connect with people not on your friends list.

According to a BuzzFeed News report, Facebook is testing a new tool that lets you add non-friends to your chat list. The feature lets you connect with a contact in your phone book, even if you’re not friends on Facebook.

This is somewhat different from a pre-existing feature, that lets you add a contact when you receive a message from them for the first time. If you didn’t, future messages would go to a separate inbox. In the case of the new feature, you can proactively add someone from your phone book and then message them freely.

However, there’s no word yet on when this feature will be officially rolled out to Messenger users.
