Facebook may be looking to bring back a feature it slashed almost three years ago. According to reports, the company has been testing SMS integration in its Messenger app, which let Android users read and respond to texts from within the app itself.

Android Police reported yesterday that a few Android users have seen an option pop up in Messenger, to use the app as their SMS client, as well as an option to switch between accounts. Aside from an inverted colour scheme for the app's Material Design, users are reporting a separate SMS tab, with texts appearing in purple, as a differentiator. However, it doesn't yet combine texts and Facebook messages from a single user into a merged thread, the way Windows Phone's messaging app does.

The Account switching tab, has so far appeared as an activateable option in the settings menu, which displays which accounts are currently signed. Notmuch else is know, so clearly this is still an early testing phase for the new features. When and if these features will be updated as standard fair for Android users is anyone's guess right now.
