Tech companies might still be putting out newer and better digital cameras all the time but, on a whole, they've taken a back seat to our smartphones. That being said, the cameras on our phones have some serious limitations in comparison to their standalone cousins. That's why the ExoLens is trying to even the playing field.

Fellowes and German lens maker Zeiss have together launched the ExoLens at CES 2016, an external camera attachment for the iPhone 6/ 6 Plus, and iPhone 6S/ 6S Plus. It's a camera mod attached to an aluminium bracket mount, with wide-angle, macro, and telephoto options. However, that means you're going to have to shed your phone case if you want to use ExoLens, not that that's really an issue seeing as the thing is far too bulky to keep on your phone all the time. In turn, you can attach the lens mount to a tripod, selfie stick or a number of other accessories..

The ExoLens will be available by mid 2016; you can buy the mount, macro lens, and wide-angle lens with a carry case for Us $299, or opt for the telephoto lens alone for US &199
