Microsoft's Xbox division takes its traditional spot at E3, its media briefing scheduled first thing on a Monday, and the "Gears of War," "Forza" and "Halo" publisher is expected to show off not only a slate of games but also a new Xbox One.

It may, in the end, prove to be industry rumblings, and it would be a lot earlier in the Xbox One's life cycle than for the Xbox 360.

But if recent reports prove to be true, then Xbox, as well as PlayStation, is readying at least one new version of its current home console for display at a games-centric June 13 live show, broadcast from 9.30am PDT (10:00pm Indian Time) via its console network, this website, YouTube and Twitch tv.

A revised Xbox One would explain why Microsoft recently cut the price of its original XBO bundles by $50 across the board; it may also precede a more powerful Xbox that's said to be launching in 2017.

Related to that more powerful model, there's also a chance that Xbox will reveal more about its plans to support Virtual Reality technology.

It's already been providing Xbox One controllers for the Oculus Rift VR headset's retail bundle, while parent company Microsoft has been investigating Augmented Reality via its HoloLens technology.

More certain are the games that will be shown off.

Releasing later in 2016, off-world action game "Gears of War 4"  (October), ambitious urban justice spectacle "Crackdown" (mid-year) and strategy spin-off  "Halo Wars 2" (late 2016) would be glaring omissions if left out.

Likewise, the "Forza Motorsport" series has seen an annual release every year since 2011, and if history repeats then "Forza Horizon 3" should get a big reveal.

After PlayStation snagged a "Call of Duty" tie-in last year, Electronic Arts has indicated that "Battlefield 1" (October) will get preferential treatment on Xbox 1 -- just like its "FIFA 17" surely will -- and there could even be space for a "Halo 6" tease.

Others shown at previous E3 briefings, and surely in for updates, are the likes of fantasy action "Scalebound," 1930s cartoon-style "Cuphead," unknown quantity "ReCore," refreshed fighting game "Killer Instinct," space station explorer "Tacoma," underground treasure hunt "Below," and the pirate-themed "Sea of Thieves."
