E3 2016: Microsoft announces Xbox One S, Xbox Scorpio plans, and much more

Whether Microsoft scheduled its E3 presentation on June 13 to compete with Apple’s WWDC press conference is unclear. However, what is clear, is that the Microsoft E3 2016 press conference had a lot of big announcements which includes a console unveil, their gaming vision for the future, new features for the Xbox One, bunch load of games, and much more. 

Xbox One S

Microsoft kicked off its E3 press conference by announcing Xbox One S, a slimmer and more powerful version of the current Xbox One which was first spotted online. The new console is 40 percent slimmer, offers support for 4K video playback and HDR. A 500GB variant will be available for $299 (Approx Rs 20,000), while the 1TB version will retail for $349 (Approx Rs 23,400). There will also be a 2TB Xbox One S in August for $399 (Approx Rs 26,700).

New features for Xbox One 

Microsoft unveiled more than a few new feature for the Xbox one including Cortana, background music while you play and regional languages options for the Xbox One. But the tech giant didn't stop there, it also announces three monumental features for gamers: Clubs, Looking for Groups and ‘Arena’. Xbox One owners can now create ‘Clubs’, groups of people that share common interests. ‘Looking for Group’ lets users find specific gamers to play with while ‘Arena’ allows gamers to compete with each other.

Customisable Xbox One Controllers

Microsoft announced customisable Xbox One controllers by Design Labs. Players will now be able to custom design every component and laser engraved text (like your Gamertag) on their controller.

Xbox One Project Scorpio

Microsoft ended the conference by announcing ‘Project Scorpio’ for 2017. With the console, Microsoft is aiming for more than 6 TeraFLOPs of power. To put things into perspective the PS4 only has 1.84 teraflops. The company also announced, games that come out for Project Scorpio will be compatible with the original Xbox One and Xbox One S.

Xbox Play Anywhere

Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere will allow consumers to buy Xbox One games and play it on the PC’s with Windows 10 as well as Xbox One. Players can also share achievements and progress on both platforms.

Games, Games, and more Games

Forza Horizon 3 will be coming to for Xbox One and Windows 10 on September 27 and for the first time, the racing game campaign will support four player co-op. 

ReCore release date has been officially confirmed for September 13.

General RAMM from Gears of Wars will join Killer Instinct’s roster. The character can be played for free this week.

The Division's new Underground DLC will be coming to Xbox One on June 28. 

Inside finally gets a release date for June 29 on Xbox One and July 7 on Steam. The Limbo game developer PlayDead also announced that Limbo will be available for free on Xbox One

Microsoft announced ‘Gwent’, a card game based on the Witcher 3 universe.

The company announced Minecraft Realms. Now Xbox One, Windows 10, iOS, and Android Minecraft gamers can play together.

Tekken 7 is set for 2017 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Frank West will once again be the main Protagonist for Dead Rising 4. The game is set to be released around Christmas this year.

Xbox One’s anticipated action/adventure Scalebound will be coming to PC.

Strategy game Halo Wars 2 is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 on February 21, 2017.
