The smartphones and televisions might have had a lot of new releases at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year, but wearables came out in a big way as well. Infact there was more action in the wearable space when compared to the nearly saturated smartphone sector. We picked out some of the wearable technology announced that hit all the right notes.

Withings Activité Pop

Withings Activité Pop is a low cost version of the Withings Activité. The Pop is an activity tracker that calculates your daily activity and sleep cycles. It is made of cheaper materials when compared to the Activité and that has resulted in a huge price drop. The Activité Pop is priced at US $150, much cheaper when compared to the Activité at US $450. The Pop tells time, measures the number of steps you take, how well you have slept and displays it on your smartphone when connected via Bluetooth 4.0. The Activité Pop has a battery life of around 8 months and does not need frequent charging. It feels more like a smartband function built into a simple-looking wristwatch and not a geeky smartwatch.   And for the price, it looks like a good deal.

Lenovo VB 10

Talking about smartbands, Lenovo launched one at CES called the Vibe Band VB10. The band has an always on e-ink display and pairs to any smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 LE. While connected it’ll display notifications for calls, texts and app notifications on the 150 character display. The band weighs 30 grams, comes in three colours - Black, White, and Gold, and has a battery life of 7 days thanks to the e-ink Display.

Sony Smartwatch Steel

The Sony Smartwatch was launched in late 2014 and is an Android Wear Device. It is also the only Android Wear device currently that has a Micro USB port and does not need a special dock to charge. At launch the smartwatch came with 2 silicon strap options, but Sony launched a steel version of the watch at CES 2015. The specifications haven’t changed but the Smartwatch 3 but now comes with a fancy steel band.

Montblanc e-Strap

Montblanc is a well known accessory maker and instead of entering the hot smartwatch market they have gone ahead and launched an e-Strap. The e-Strap is a leather strap with an OLED display in place of the clasp. The tiny 0.9 inch OLED display shows notifications, calls, messages and offer music controls to the user. This tiny device can also calculate user activity working like a fitness tracker. For people who don’t like going fully digital the strap can be attached to a any normal watch. So you get a classic timepiece with a bit of digital tech. For the geeks, you can put the strap on your smartwatch effectively making it a dual display setup.
Anyone up for it?
