Batman vs Superman: What we know so far

Warner Bros. is reeasing a trailer of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice on Monday. Here's what we know about the movie so far.

A new Batman vs Superman trailer has hit YouTube, and frankly there's really nothing to see. Fifteen seconds of logos is what you get when you hit the link, and nothing else to show for it.

And you might notice the date in the trailer is a little off. That's because it's not the movie release date, but instead a date for a special teaser screening in IMAX in the US on Monday.

So why hasn't DC learned anything from Marvel's style of teasing? The latter has, over time, learned that it doesn't matter if you give away a few spoiler hints in your trailers, it won't ruin the films hype. In fact, people might be all the more eager to watch the film on the big screen, because they know to expect at least that one awesome scene. An IMAX teaser, if it's actually something substantial, will definitely generate hype, but a YouTube sneak peek would undoubtedly do wonders for the movie's publicity. People can access YouTube videos conveniently, the internet loves writing about trailers, and they're infinitely shareable. But DC and Zack Snyder seem hell bent on keeping this project under wraps as much as possible. So, of course, we're going to break down as much as we know about it so far.

CAUTION: Spoilers ahead. You've been warned

Zack Snyder has long since confirmed that Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice will draw heavily from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic book. And since this movie is a set up for the upcoming Justice League films, that means two things; the Caped Crusader and the Kryptonian will most certainly be at odds, will have a physical confrontation of some sort, but will end up working together by the end of the movie. Fans of the comic (me included) have been foaming at the mouth ever since the movie was first teased ages ago, and hopefully we won't be disappointed by what could be an epic battle.

We know that other than Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill playing the titular characters, a number of other Justice League heroes will make their appearances; Gal Gadot has a decently chunky role in the film as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame will play Aquaman, and theater actor Ray Fisher will embody Cyborg. On a side note, Ezra Miller has been confirmed to play The Flash in Justice League as well as a solo film, but could he appear in this movie? It's a possibility, but not certain. It would definitely make sense for the fastest man alive to have a cameo in the movie, no matter how small, but how? A singular red blur stopping a robbery or saving a life? A red costumed superhero at the ready when Batman forms the Justice League? Only time will tell.

Another possibility is the appearance of a new Robin. Suckerpunch star Jena Malone has been cast for an unspecified role for the film, which doesn't say much, until you remember that she dyed her hair red about six months ago, the same colour as Batman's female sidekick in the Frank Miller book, Carrie Kelley.

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

There's another possibility; she could instead be playing the role of another prominent redhead, Barbara "Batgirl" Gordon. However, since this movie is borrowing heavily from Frank Miller's comic, in which Barbara is absent, that doesn't seem very likely.

Another reason to rejoice is the addition of Jesse Eisenberg to play villain Lex Luthor. The bald-headed egomaniac is one of Superman's most deadly enemies, with his vast resources and incredibly high intellect, allowing him to manipulate the public and, on occasion, Supes himself. We're willing to bet some of the film's best dialogue will come from him.

And lastly, if you haven't seen the Batmobile yet, this is what it looks like.

Do you really need any more reasons to watch the film? Sit tight, wait for the teaser trailer, shiver in anticipation, repeat.
