Bangalore is all set to host Social Media Week (SMW) between February 17 and February 21 simultaneously with seven other cities—Barcelona, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Lagod, Milan, New York and Tokyo.

Started five years ago in New York, this is the second time India is hosting the event. It was held in Mumbai last year. Today, the community has grown to more than a lakh members in 26 cities around the world.

The week-long worldwide event will explore the economic, social, and cultural impact of social media at popular haunts in the city, including Barleyz, City Bar, Fava, Hard Rock Café and The Leela Palace.

The theme for this year is ‘Future is always on and always connected’. For Bangalore, there is an additional sub theme—social media for social change.

Some of the prominent speakers who are expected to be part of the event are Milind Soman, former board member of Infosys and current chairperson of Manipal education services TV Mohandas Pai, ACP Traffic Bangalore City B. Dayananda and AICC Spokesperson Rajeev Gowda.

Topics such as '2014 Elections, will social media be a game changer?' and 'crowdfund your idea' and many more relevant ones are expected to be covered during the week.
