Apple Watch pre-orders near 1 million mark in US on launch day

Pre-orders for the watch touched 957,000 units, with shipping dates ranging from late April to early May.

As Apple's much-awaited watch went up for online pre-orders on Friday, almost one million people made their bookings online on the first day itself. According to TechCrunch, Apple watch's less expensive Sport model emerged as the most popular model among buyers, with 62 percent of US customers pre-ordering it.

U.S. online commerce market research firm, Slice Intelligence, said that the average spent by all Apple watch enthusiasts, who pre-ordered the wearable device, was US $503.83. Apple Watch's Sport model buyers, on the other hand, spent an average of U $382.83 per watch, while those purchasing the mid-priced Apple Watch spent US $707.04 on average.

The report said that shipment fulfillment dates ranged between late April and early May initially, but extended well into late June for many models.
