Apple unveiled a brand new 2016 MacBook Pro during the ‘Hello Again’ event. The company calls it “the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro ever”.

The device features a new design, compared to previous models, along with a thin OLED touch-strip running across the top, called as Touch Bar, and an all-aluminium body.

The Touch Bar is the OLED touch strip at the top of the keyboard that had been long rumored. Towards the right, you will find a Touch ID fingerprint authentication module, which is also protected by a sapphire glass cover. It places controls right at the user’s fingertips and adapts when using the system or apps like Mail, Finder, Calendar, Numbers, GarageBand, Final Cut Pro X and many more, including third-party apps. It offers fast user switching, which means that another user can switch to their own account by scanning their fingerprint. It is integrated with the hardware power button and allows you to use it with Apple Pay. The coolest thing you can probably do with the Touch Bar is use it as an emoji picker.

The Force Touch trackpad on the MacBook Pro is twice as large as the previous generation and uses haptic feedback as well. The new keyboard uses butterfly keys to drop height.

It is available in a 13-inch and a 15-inch model. The 15-inch model is 15.5mm, down from 18mm, and weighs 1.8KG, again down from around 2KG. The 13-inch model is 14.9mm, which is 17 thinner than before, and is 1.3KG, down from around 1.58KG. It comes in two colour variants – grey and dark grey.

The 15-inch model is powered by a 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.5 GHz, 16GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage. The 13-inch model comes in Core i5 or i7 processors and an Intel Iris GPU. It comes equipped with four Thunderbolt 3 ports that support USB-C too! In other features, the MacBook Pro has a 3.5mm headphone jack, but without SD card slots. Apple’s MacBook Pro is rated to deliver up to 10 hours of battery life.

Let’s talk about the display. Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple stated that the new display is 67 percent brighter, has a 67 percent better contrast ratio, and displays 25 percent more colors respectively. Even though it includes such improvements, Apple claims that it consumes less power than before.

And we have the pricing. The entry-level MacBook Pro without Touch Bar is priced at $1,499; the upper level 13-inch model is priced at $1,799 while the 15-inch MacBook Pro is priced at $2,399.
